When the case in Which Carl Elfraim Wennersten applied for a judgement against George Bradford for £25 as rent due was called in the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, Bradford asked for leave to defend. Mr. T. J. Quilter (Tabart and Quilter) appeared for Bradford, who stated that he had a good defence. The application was granted, defendant to pay £ 2/2/- professional costs. Mr. J. Bennett appeared for the plaintiff.

Narrative

Starr-Bowkett Society.
A special general meeting of members of the Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held at the registered office of the company, Lake-street, on Friday evening. Mr. F. G. Locke presided. The business was to ballot for No. 82 appropriation, which entitled the person drawing it to an advance of £2oo repayable in 11 years free of interest. Messrs. C. Taylor and D. Quigley were appointed scrutineers, and Miss Foster was deputed to draw the marble, which was No. 280, standing in the name of Mr. C. C. Wennersten. No. 83 appropriation was auctioned, and realised £8.
