Mrs. Smith, wife of a carpenter living at West End, was seriously burnt about the head and body on 22ud August, her clothes catching fire whilst she was working in the kitchen.

Yesterday afternoon as Mrs. Smith, who resides at the West End near the Show Ground was attending to some cooking, her dress caught fire, and the material being very inflammable she was instantly enveloped in flames.
It was some little time before the flames were extinguished, and Mrs. Smith suffered intensely.
Dr. Van Someren was immediately sent for and on arrival found that the injuries were very serious, the lower portion of the body being badly burned whilst the legs were literally roasted.
Remedies were immediately applied and everything done to relieve the sufferer who was in great agony.
